William (Bill) Marshall (1923 - 2007) became the first apprentice at The Leach Pottery at the age of 14. He was regarded as Bernard Leach’s right hand man often making some of Bernard’s larger and more complex pots. and was responsible for overseeing the standard ware, as well as the training of the young apprentices who passed through. In 1977 he left the Leach Pottery to set up his own pottery at Lelant, St. Ives establishing himself as a master potter in his own right. His work is in many important collections including the V&A museum.
